بيري فالي

بيري ڤيل حيٌّ يقع ضمن منطقة لويشام في لندن . يبعد 10.5 كيلومترات (6.5 أميال) جنوب شرق تشارينغ كروس، ويقع بالقرب من فوريست هيل شرق محطة قطار فوريست هيل ، حيث يشكل خط السكة الحديدية حدوده الغربية. سُمّي الحيّ نسبةً إلى الطريق الرئيسي الذي يحمل اسم بيري ڤيل والذي يمرّ عبره، وهو جزء من طريق B227 المعروف باسم بيري رايز جنوبًا. وقد أُنشئ هذا الحيّ الانتخابي منذ أن قامت منطقة لويشام بتعديل دوائرها الانتخابية وحدودها في عام 2002.  

من عام 1978 إلى عام 2002، كانت هناك دائرة انتخابية تحمل اسمًا مشابهًا، وهي دائرة بيري هيل. كانت أصغر حجمًا وتغطي جزءًا من نفس المنطقة، ولكنها كانت تقع شرقًا قليلًا. سُميت هذه الدائرة نسبةً إلى طريق A212 الذي يُطلق عليه اسم بيري هيل لأنه يمر عبرها ويمتد من كاتفورد إلى سايدنهام .

كانت المنطقة في السابق جزءًا من غابة مشتركة قديمة تُعرف باسم غابة الشمال الكبرى ، ولم تشهد استيطانًا كبيرًا قبل القرن الثامن عشر. كان يمر عبر المنطقة ممرٌ يُشكّل اليوم الطرق الحديثة المعروفة باسم بيري فالي وبيري رايز. وقد تفرع هذا الممر مما يُعرف الآن باسم طريق وولستون ليُوصل إلى ما كان يُعرف سابقًا باسم شارع بيري، والذي يُسمى الآن بيري هيل، وكذلك إلى ما كان يُعرف سابقًا باسم سايدنهام غرين، والذي يُسمى الآن بيل غرين . تظهر هذه الطرق على الخرائط بدءًا من عام ١٧٤١. ^{[ ٢ ]}

يعود تاريخ لوحتي بيري فالي 118 و118A إلى عام 1778، وتشيران إلى وجود قرية تاريخية صغيرة تقع قبل تقاطع طرق بيري فالي وبيري رايز وولستون رود. وقد سُميت هذه القرية في خرائط القرن الثامن عشر بأسماء بيريز لو وبيري سلو وبيريز سلاو. ويربط التراث المحلي هذا الاسم بصناعة مشروب البيري ، وهو مشروب كحولي يُصنع من الكمثرى. إلا أن خرائط القرن التاسع عشر تُظهر حقولاً لا بساتين. ^{[ 2 ]}

In the 19th century change was brought to the area by the opening of the nearby Croydon Canal in 1809 and which was replaced by the London and Croydon Railway in 1839, the enclosure of Sydenham Common in 1810, and the re-location of The Crystal Palace to the area in 1854. The area surrounding Hamilton Hall on South Road includes the oldest surviving buildings and appears to have been levelled before 1854. What was formerly communal land was parcelled out to large local landowners, William Legge, 5th Earl of Dartmouth being awarded Pickthorns which was roughly the area bounded by the modern Sunderland Road, Westbourne Drive, Stanstead Road and Perry Vale. The earl built a middleclass suburb on Pickthorns of semi-detached villas known as Dartmouth Park. The centrepiece of this was the Christ Church and the mansion known as The Red Hall in South Road which became a private girls' school called Tudor Hall School in 1865. Work on the church started in 1852 but was not completed until 1885. The building that housed the girls school, known as Tudor Hall Ladies College in 1907 survives only in part today as the Tudor House flats in South Road.^[2]

Most of today's houses in Gaynesford Road, Sunderland Road, Church Rise and Perry Vale were built between 1901 and 1906 by local Forest Hill builder, Ted Christmas. The area suffered extensively from bombing during World War II, in particular on Church Rise, Perry Vale and Sunderland Road, including from V-1 flying bombs.^[2]

Perry Vale is part of the Perry Valeelectoral ward for elections to Lewisham London Borough Council.^[3]
