من أعلى اليسار، باتجاه عقارب الساعة: بدأ المستكشف الإنجليزي جيمس كوك رحلته الأولى حول العالم، ليصبح أول أوروبي معروف يصل إلى الساحل الشرقي لأستراليا؛ شكّل النصر في معركة بوكسار ومعاهدة الله أباد اللاحقة بداية التدخل السياسي والدستوري لشركة الهند الشرقية وبداية الحكم البريطاني في الهند؛ استولى العبيد على السفينة الهولندية ميرمين التي كانت تنقلها في ثورة ميرمين للعبيد ؛ تُوّج جورج الثالث ملكًا على المملكة المتحدة ، واستمر حكمه لفترة أطول من أي من أسلافه؛ بنى المخترع الفرنسي نيكولا جوزيف كونيو أول مركبة برية ميكانيكية ذاتية الدفع كاملة الحجم وعاملة في العالم، وهي "فاردييه آ فابور" - وهي في الواقع أول سيارة في العالم؛ أقر البرلمان البريطاني قانون الطوابع ، الذي اشترط إنتاج العديد من المواد المطبوعة في المستعمرات على ورق مختوم يُنتج في لندن. ساهمت عدم شعبية قانون الطوابع، وغيره من الضرائب المماثلة التي فرضها البرلمان، في اندلاع الثورة الأمريكية. قام ليوبولد موزارت وعائلته بجولة في أوروبا مما أتاح لأطفالهم تجربة العالم الموسيقي العالمي بالكامل، وهو ما استمر في حالة فولفغانغ من خلال رحلات أخرى في السنوات الست التالية، قبل تعيينه من قبل الأمير رئيس الأساقفة كعازف موسيقي في البلاط؛ وقد أنهى توقيع معاهدة باريس رسميًا حرب السنوات السبع وشكل بداية حقبة من الهيمنة البريطانية خارج أوروبا.

شهدت ستينيات القرن الثامن عشر تحولات جذرية في الثقافة والتكنولوجيا والدبلوماسية، فكانت عقداً انتقالياً مهد الطريق فعلياً للعصر الحديث بعد انتهاء عصر الباروك . وقد حملت حرب السنوات السبع - التي يمكن القول إنها كانت أوسع صراع في ذلك الوقت - امتداداً لنزعات الإمبريالية خارج حدود أوروبا ، حيث امتدت إلى أراضٍ لا حصر لها (خاصة في آسيا وأفريقيا ) لعقود لاحقة تحت وطأة الاستعمار .

  • في الرابع من أبريل / نيسان، وقّع ممثلو الإمبراطورية البريطانية وقبيلة تشوكتاو الهندية في ولاية ميسيسيبي معاهدة سلام في حصن تومبيكبي ، بالقرب من بلدة إيبس الحالية في ولاية ألاباما ، وذلك في أعقاب تنازل فرنسا عن بعض مطالباتها للبريطانيين. وتمّ تحديد حدود فاصلة بين الأراضي المخصصة لقبيلة تشوكتاو والأراضي التي يمكن للمستوطنين البريطانيين استخدامها؛ بالإضافة إلى ذلك، وافق البريطانيون على توفير ضابط شرطة وصانع أسلحة في حصن تومبيكبي ليستخدمهما أفراد قبيلة تشوكتاو في تقديم شكاوى التعدي على الأراضي وإصلاح الأسلحة. إلا أنه بحلول عام 1775، أصبح عدد أفراد قبيلة تشوكتاو أقل من عدد البريطانيين في ولاية ميسيسيبي.   • 5 أبريل - بعد الانتهاء من جزء من خط ماسون-ديكسون الذي يحدد الحدود شبه الدائرية بين بنسلفانيا وديلاوير ، بدأ المساحان الإنجليزيان تشارلز ماسون وجيريميا ديكسون عملية استغرقت عامين ونصف لرسم حدود 230 ميلاً بين بنسلفانيا وماريلاند على طول خط عرض 39°43′20″ شمالاً . [ 99 ]
  • 14 أبريل - بعد ثلاثة أيام من تلقي نبأ إقرار قانون الطوابع، اقتحم المستوطنون الأمريكيون مستودع أسلحة الجيش البريطاني بالقرب من مبنى بلدية نيويورك، وقاموا بتخريب الأسلحة الموجودة بداخله عن طريق وضع مسامير فيها. [ 100 ]
  • في 26 أبريل / نيسان، قدّم المهندس الألماني كريستيان كراتزنستين، في سانت بطرسبرغ ، إلى الأكاديمية الروسية للعلوم نسخةً مُحسّنة من الآلة الحسابية التي اخترعها غوتفريد لايبنتز . وادّعى كراتزنستين أن آلته تُعالج مشكلة آلة لايبنتز في العمليات الحسابية التي تتجاوز أربعة أرقام، مُعالجًا العيب الذي يجعل الآلة "عرضةً للخطأ عند تقريب العدد من 9999 إلى 10000"، إلا أن الآلة لم تُطوّر أكثر من ذلك. [ 101 ]
  • 18 مايو - بعد فترة وجيزة من بدء الحكم البريطاني على مستعمرة كيبيك الفرنسية السابقة ، دمر حريق عرضي ربع مدينة مونتريال . [ 102 ]
  • 26 مايو - خلال نزهة في الحديقة "في ظهيرة يوم سبت جميل" في غلاسكو غرين ، تلقى المهندس الاسكتلندي جيمس وات الإلهام الذي أدى إلى تحقيق طفرة في تطويره للمحرك البخاري ؛ يروي لاحقًا: "خطرت لي فكرة أن البخار، كونه جسمًا مرنًا، سيندفع إلى الفراغ، وإذا تم إنشاء اتصال بين الأسطوانة ووعاء مستنفد، فسوف يندفع إليه، وقد يتكثف هناك دون تبريد الأسطوانة... لم أكن قد مشيت أبعد من بيت الغولف عندما تبلورت الفكرة بأكملها في ذهني."
